Billy Reid: Making The South Proud

Friday night, to kick off New York Fashion Week (an event that I don't actually keep up with), GQ (a magazine that I don't actually read) announced its winner of the GQ/CFDA Best New Menswear Designer in America Award to be none other than The South's own native son, Billy Reid.  Nashville is fortunate to be home to one of Reid's seven stores and every time I'm there I'm struck by how perfectly he captures the distinct essence of timeless southern style while maintaining a completely original and modern approach.  Bottom line: nobody deserves this award more than the man in Alabama.

Another thing I like about Reid?  He's a champion of local independent music.  Like local kindred spirits Imogene+Willie, the Nashville shop plays host to a variety of cool live music nights.  I ask you, what could be better than great style and live music?

Congratulations to Billy Reid!

Ready For Spring: Madras and Seersucker

I can think of at least at least three reasons why I'm ready to trade in the Bean Boots for warmer weather.  I have three new cotton ties to wear from JPress and Brooks Brothers in madras plaid and seersucker.  I can't wait to give them a run once the sun comes out.  My 6 year old daughter has the sense to love a good tie and I have a feeling she is going to go gaga over these.

Check This Out: A Collection A Day

I ran across the following via Cloudal Partners, one of my daily internet stops:  Artist Lisa Congdon (whose brilliant work can be purchased here) has tackled the challenge of posting a picture of a personal collection (either real or drawn) every day this year.  I think this is brilliant and I can't wait to see what it yields visually. Her mid-century matchbooks (below) really caught my eye.
